Collection: Colleen Noseworthy - Mixed Media Artist
Born and raised near St. John’s, Newfoundland, Colleen Noseworthy has always been drawn to and inspired by the ocean. As a child, she found serenity spending countless hours collecting and sorting rocks and shells while visiting her grandmother in St.Mary’s Bay, NL. Years later, her young son introduced her to sea glass while exploring the shoreline in Bedford, Nova Scotia. They began to collect sea glass, research its history, and make family gifts from the treasures they had discovered. How broken shards of colourful gems could tumble for hundreds of years in the ocean and then become the intricate puzzle pieces to her artwork was both mystical and magical.
Discovering and preserving small pieces of unknown history inspired Colleen and uncovered her passion for creativity and her desire to seek out the rarest surf-tumbled discarded glass objects, pottery pieces, brick, stone, and driftwood and give them new life in the whimsical and folky pieces she creates. She often gets lost in the work as she challenges herself with new designs and ideas, favouring nautical and east coast images. In 2018 she was invited to join the team of artists and artisans at Hags on the Hill in Peggy’s Cove and in 2021 became a member of Art 1274 Hollis, which has helped her grow and push her limits as an artist. The speech-language pathologist, turned stay-at-home mother, made the decision to pursue her passion and become a full-time local artist who always fits physical activity into her day to gives her the energy for everything else.
