Fort Massey Church – Halifax

Fort Massey was built in 1870 on the site of blockhouse known as Fort Massey. Architect David Stirling, set out to establish a new standard of gothic excellence and won international recognition. The church is a maze of intricate carvings in wood and stone, combined with splendidly ornamented plasterwork.  Fort Massey suffered during the Halifax Explosion of 1917, but provided much relief for the neighbourhood and was quickly restored.
