Solarus is a survivor. There were many before them that didn't survive the journey. The others couldn't handle the heat, cracked under the pressure, and just fell apart on the way home. But not Solarus. The strength of character of this gorgeous crow just could not be contained. Their head is turning to you in defiance asking to just try them!
Made of Raku clay and modeled to bring out their personality, this crow was the last of many attempts at getting a surviving sculpture. Raku is a process of heating the clay up to 1700 degrees Fahrenheit and removing it from that heat and putting it directly into combustibles which are then starved of oxygen. This creates the beautiful and stunning surface you see. However, because of the extreme change of temperature - breakage often occurs. This is the first sculpture to survive the complete journey without cracking! Hand forged feet from a local blacksmith adds a depth to their personality that is truly unique.
