It’s now Jolly July

Hello From Art 1274 Hollis Gallery!
It’s now Jolly July and the sizzle of summer is upon us .WHEW!
Time for short shorts, peekaboo midriff tanks, breezy bathing suits and oh, don’t forget the sunscreen and sunhat…and water lots of water.
On the topic of clothing apparel, lets talk about that. Lets discuss Wearable Art or as it's often referred…Artwear.
Wearable Art would be defined as clothing and accessories including jewelry, footwear, handbags and such created for the imagination and oft times depicting the personality of the Artist. Past examples of this being Henri Mattise and Salvador Dali both who delved into Art making beyond brush and canvas. Both making use of the human body as a moving aspect for their Art. In essence, the wearer becomes part of the Art piece. A walking, talking Art instillation.
Today's Artists and Jewellers continue this trend by telling their story in one of a kind wearables thus bucking the fickle trends of fast fashion. This allows the wearer to support Art in a sustainable and eco friendly manner while all the while celebrating their own individuality.

Here at Hollis Gallery we are proud of our exceptional jewellers of which there are two. These Jewellers bring the term “ One of a Kind” to a very high level. Our glass Artist creates decorative and functional pieces as well as a small piece to be worn in your hair. The Gallery is also home to three Fibre Artists who do the same. Their wearable pieces are incredibly beautiful and unique.  As a matter of fact one of these ladies is feature Artist for July. Her work and wearables are showcased until August 1.

No matter what form it takes, a piece of wearable Art sparkles the wearer's unique individuality along with the talent of its creator. Come and see for yourself and wear it with pride!

See you at the Gallery
