Hello Hollis Friends, Happy early summer!
Well let me just say, things are poppin’ at the Gallery this month like the young pea shoots comin’ up in my garden. We are excited for two very special events this month and cannot wait to share them with you!

Our little Gallery is now Sweet Sixteen and has grown and matured into as fine a Creative Space as any in the City of Halifax. We have received the honoured title of being one of the favourite spots to visit in the downtown core.
Looking back over the years we see how the Gallery has grown into a highly successful space for the promotion of local Artists and their work. Through ups and downs we continue to welcome visitors from all over the world. There were times though …we had our share of challenges. Leaky pipes, covid lockdown, a major construction project across the street, hurricanes, snowstorm closures - you name it. We persevered and we gained experience and now we want to celebrate with you, our patrons, who make it all worthwhile!
Just to take you on an adventure back in time, we look back on past events that brought folks in to share the good times.
Nocturne.. the annual Art at Night for downtown Halifax. Art Hollis is a lively participant every year. Each year there is a theme and our Art makers welcome the challenge to strut our stuff.
We remember the pop up show one year at Historic properties as a lot of fun on the waterfront.
In 2017 we celebrated Canada’s 150th Anniversary with a show that featured 150 Nova Scotia lighthouses. This was a really popular show with our come from aways.
Art Hollis has become a popular destination for folks to come witness Art in process as we have had several of our Artists create magic before your eyes right in the gallery. Wait for our next one!
During Covid what could be done but stay home and make Art by oneself. Not to be undone by this, we decided - let’s all do Self Portraits…and so we did!
Because Art Hollis is mindful of the environment we live in and the fact that Nature is an Artist’s muse; we offered a show that featured Endangered Species. Each Art maker in their own way contributed a piece appropriate to their medium. It was extremely interesting with text to explain each offering.

The essence of creativity is all around you when you walk through the door of Art 1274 Hollis Street Gallery.
Stay tuned for our newsletter with the details for our next inspired exhibition by Heather Crout - From Sketch to Easel, opening July 5th, which happens to be our Sweet Sixteen celebration as well.

See you there!
