Welcome August! Well, almost August.
Apparently to quote the ever wise “Google dictionary”, the name of that dear steamy, hot month can also be an adjective. As such the word “august” can mean inspiring reverence or admiration, supreme dignity and grandeur, even majestic.
To me the month of August is like a lovely, rosy cheeked Grandmama. Like my fully mature and overflowing garden, she is ample bosomed, bedecked in an apron of supreme colour and smells of sweet lavender and thyme. Ahhh…summer!

So at this time of the year Artists who love floral painting are in their element. But not only flowers.

Look at the light reflected on a cool, shady pond; not unlike light that is reflected on the surface of a glass vase or wine glass. Reflected light has been
the mystery in Art that captures the eye of a viewer
and, for a moment, we think we are seeing through to what is inside. Ahhh…there’s the challenge for a good
painter!
The Month of August we will be featuring work by our esteemed Lady President, Colleen Underwood. Here is an Artist who captures the very essence of transparency and reflection in her paintings.

Art Hollis invites you to a very special Exhibit of Colleen’s work. Come see the magic for yourself at our opening reception on Saturday, August 2nd from 3-5.
See you at the Gallery
