Cape Breton Tartan Sconce

There are so many things you can do with a sconce shaped piece! Simply sit it somewhere where it will capture light and allow the cathedral colours to shine through! Put a candle behind it for a little ambience! Replace a boring old white sconce shade with a subtlety patriotic tartan! Or, display it on your desk where you work to show your pride in your work and accomplishment! Makes a nice award or trophy!)

The tartan of Cape Breton, was designed in 1957 by Elizabeth Grant. Its colour scheme was derived from a 1907 poem by Lillian Crewe Walsh:

Black for the wealth of our coal mines
Grey for our Cape Breton Steel
Green for our
lofty mountains, our valleys and our fields
Gold for the golden sunsets shining bright on the lakes of Bras d'Ors
To show us God's hand has lingered To Bless Cape Breton's shore.

  • Approximately 9” wide by 6” high
  • Even flat bottom base Made with all food safe, lead free components
  • Always kiln annealed
  • Candle not included
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Not recommended for use in the microwave, on the stovetop or in the oven

All painting and glass cutting is done by hand. Each piece will vary slightly. Occasional bubbles are expected in fused glass, contributing to the “folk artiness” of the piece.
