Five Star Bistro (24" x 18")

"Five Star Bistro" was inspired by a vivid moment Colleen witnessed while standing on a dock, watching fishermen return with their catch of the day. The image of seagulls eagerly gathering around a boat filled with fresh fish sparked the idea for this work.

In this scene, the boat becomes a five-star bistro from the seagulls' perspective — an inviting place filled with irresistible offerings. The familiar sight of seagulls is a strong symbol of the Maritimes, evoking both a sense of place and the daily rhythms of coastal life.

Working with encaustics (beeswax & oil paint) deeply influences the mood and story of this painting. Colleen wants viewers to not only see but also almost hear the uproar of the seagulls, smell the salt air, and feel the sea breeze as if they were present on that dock.
