Guardian of Sambro Island 

At over 250 years old the Sambro Island Lighthouse is the oldest standing and operating lighthouse in the Americas.  Over the years its towering presence has guided scores of vessels in and out of Halifax harbour: Royal and Canadian warships, fishing boats, yachts, and sailboats alike.  Through all sorts of weather, this red and white beacon is the last sight many sailors see leaving Halifax and a friendly welcome when they return home.
