"Shoreline Buffet" was inspired by Colleen's many trips to the beach, where shorebirds such as sandpipers always catch her attention. These remarkable creatures scurry in and out of the shore with incredible speed, their tiny legs moving almost like flashes of lightning. Watching them evokes memories of her little dog eagerly trying to join their rapid clusters, only to watch as they rise gracefully and quickly find another spot to rest and feed.
In painting Shoreline Buffet, Colleen wanted to capture not only the energetic movement of the sandpipers but also convey a message of respect for their natural lives, especially their nesting habits. She hopes to remind viewers to be mindful of nature's fragility and to honor the places where these birds raise their young.
The shoreline itself holds deep personal and artistic significance for Colleen. It is a place that brings calmness and joy, offering an escape from the bustle of city life. The beaches of Nova Scotia are breathtaking, and they represent her happy place — a refuge that constantly renews her spirit.
