"A sure sign of spring is the sound of woodpeckers drumming to claim territory, or vigorously pounding away to excavate the perfect nesting cavity in dead trees, and sometimes in telephone poles!

Our most stunning woodpecker is the large boisterous pileated. During my years volunteering at Hope for Wildlife I helped rehabilitate several pileateds who needed a helping hand. I fell in love with each and every one of them! There is now a healthy population living in our community and it is always a joy to see them visit our suet feeders, especially when they bring their family. "
