Break of Day

My mornings in Mexico were filled with the calls of the Boat-tailed Grackles. The males would find the tallest spot and display to the other males, fanning their tails, beaks pointed skyward. "Look at me! I'm the tallest! I have the widest tail! This is my territory! " 

The grackles were not the prettiest birds we saw, nor did they sing the prettiest song, but their vibrant blue-black feathers and their noisy boasting always made us laugh.
